Women and Development Online: Project Operations
Uses of Information Technology for Social Benefit:
The Women and Development Online Information Project creates
direct means to obtain and to disseminate practical information
on current development issues affecting Thailand.
The Project has created a physical network of organisations
dealing with development both globally and locally. It also has
created an online network of their information for centralised, easy
access and use.
The Project makes information technology more accessible to women,
less-privileged groups, and developing regions that have not been able
to access Internet-based communications. The aim is for them to be
able to discuss their information and needs in the international
community, rather than for them to be spoken about by outsiders.
Operations in Thailand:
The Project works with representatives of Thai women's NGOs,
research institutions, and information technology organisations in
Bangkok and Chiang Mai. In addition to online collaboration we
continue onsite, local collaboration several times per year.
Face-to-face onsite interactions between Project members and our
affiliates in Thailand are to continue the academic and practical
sides of our research. We also provide technical support to and
exchange relevant information with NGOs and government agencies
dealing with women, children, ethnic miniorities, and all those who
directly confront the problems arising with the development process.
