意外とおしゃれ
毎日、街まで出ているせいかも知れないけれど、この場所での時間の流れは日本にいたときとあまり変わらない。
電車は時間通りに走り、スーパーは夜中まで営業し、ディストロイドジーンズは流行っていて、絶えずクルマは行き交い、セブンイレブンは相変わらず24時間営業で、若者はスニーカーソックスを履いていて、電車の中でも人はケータイに忙しく、エスカレーターでも歩く人は多く、DVDはCDよりも安く、プレステがX-BOXよりも幅をきかせ、クルマは道路を埋め尽くし、マックには人が集う。
いわゆるグローバリゼーション(グローバリズムではなく)の影響、という一言で片付けてしまうのはあまりにも陳腐だけれども、経済の国際化には、EUにも参加せず、中心と距離をおこうとしているこの国も抗えないようだ。
マックやセブンイレブンなど世界中にその名を響かせるブランドの巧妙なところは、その地方ごとの地方性をたくみに取り入れる戦略をとっていること。その地方の人が好む商品を積極的に導入し、ライフスタイルに迎合しつつ、ブランド自体をたくみにその場所に浸透させてしまう。だけど一方で世界レベルの商品網を持っているから、価格などで地元の店よりも有利に立てる。
他のヨーロッパの国を知らない。でも、今この国から受ける印象は「ノルウェー」じゃなくて、「ヨーロッパ」だ。思っていたよりも人はおしゃれで、忙しくて、街に声は溢れる。他の国でもさも繰り広げられていそうな光景。それが本当にグローバリゼーションの影響かどうかは今はわからない。
思ったよりも、この国でも急がないといけないのかも知れない。それとも、今ふと思ったのだけど、ヨーロッパ人より足が短いから、他人の歩みが速く感じられるだけかな。
