Software

In quantum computing, theoretical studies are often carried out using Mathematica, data analysis is often done using Matlab, and laboratory experiments are often driven using Labview. Octave is a GNU implementation of an interpreted language much like Matlab. I also recommend John Heidemann's JDB.

You will need the following:

Octave:
gnuplot (SourceForge) (a Mac page)
QCLib in Octave.
We won't get around to using Octaviz, but it looks sweet.
