Seonir Citizens in Australia
U3A

@People living in the information and intelligence society are actively in pursuit of ways to enrich their lives.  These activities have been developed very  rapidly, so many people in the world are able to participate in the creation of new cultures through the network of human communication.

@In a bright computer room at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus, there are some young students studying for the new school term. This national university is providing some facilities for senior people to study interesting subjects.  The new term has just started and the first class has opened for U3A.  Todayfs lecture is the introduction of U3A.

@@

@U3A is the abbreviation of the name of the University of the Third Age, a school for senior study.  It is a very popular network of academic institutions not only in Australia but also in the UK. The third generation is the expression for  people of the generation at the third (senior) stage of life liberated from all the work and from responsibility of raising children. The expression previously introduced has something to do with this expression here.

@A little over two years ago Mr Tetsuo KAWAMURA, (71 years old), decided to retire to the Gold Coast, Australia.  He has been living there for about one and a half years under the resident visa for retirees. His desired life style is not only to associate with other Japanese residents, but to also liaise  with local Australian residents.  For example, by being the only Japanese student in the French class in a nearby U3A campus and also by participating in an early morning walking club 3 times a week. He is still traveling extensively in Australia and overseas, while he is also very ardent in the exchange of information through the digital network.

@Handicapped students have access without difficulty to all university facilities on this campus. There is a tea break before the start of each class in a very congenial atmosphere.
